About Orana Motor Inn & Restaurant

If you’re cruising through the Far North and want a place that feels easy, local, and genuinely welcoming, let me introduce you to Orana Motor Inn & Restaurant, a relaxed restaurant set right inside the Orana Motor Inn at 238 Commerce Street, Kaitaia 0410, New Zealand, where the whole vibe blends motel comfort with a laid-back hotel bar atmosphere that locals quietly love. What I like most is how it doesn’t try to be flashy, yet still manages to cover all the bases, because you can swing by for a quick coffee in the morning, come back later for small plates with friends, and then wind down in the evening with beer, wine, or proper cocktails without ever feeling rushed. The space itself feels open and social, especially if you grab one of the outdoor seating spots on a sunny day, although dine-in is always cozy when the weather turns, and if you’re staying nearby, delivery makes it even easier to keep things simple. Foodwise, it’s the kind of place where the menu speaks clearly, offering familiar, comforting options rather than trying to confuse you, and the drinks list keeps everyone happy with alcohol, spirits, and plenty of choice whether you’re in the mood for something light or something that packs a little more punch. Because it’s part restaurant, part motel hub, there’s a steady flow of travelers mixing with locals, which somehow makes the energy feel real instead of forced, and that balance is exactly why I enjoy introducing people to Orana Motor Inn & Restaurant whenever they ask me where to eat in Kaitaia. Even better, the service options are flexible enough that you never feel boxed in, so whether you’re planning a relaxed dinner, a casual drink after a long drive, or just a quick bite before heading back on the road, the place fits naturally into your day without making you overthink the decision.

Stayed here for 3 nights in winter with a friend. Check-in was easy, staff were extremely friendly and accommodating, and I would recommend the restaurant for anyone in the area. The rooms themselves were well furnished and large, and though appliances and fixtures were not the most modern, everything was clean and functional. There is a kettle, microwave, and fridge as well as a tv. The heat pump was great, and room was very well insulated. It's on the main road in town, so there is a tad road noise, but it was pretty quiet. Will definitely stay again! The restaurant is exceptional, for 30 dollars each, we got huge delicious meals (the scallop entree, fish of the day and vegetable baos). Definitely the best meal I have had for a while! The deserts are also divine, we tried the chocolate brownie and baileys ice cream, so good! The breakfast costs a little extra, but is well worth it, and there are lots of options (light breakfast, continental, big cooked breakfast etc). Would definitely recommend to anyone staying in the area, either to stay or just to eat!

Orana Moror Inn & Restaurant, I had recently stayed at this place and I was extremely pleased with the service I received. The administration lady was pleasant and welcoming, the room was a bit out dated with a squeaky bed but clean and tidy. I must comment on the food was absolutely delicious, I tried the Snapper beautifully fresh and the presentation was superb. Also the ladies who delivered our food to the room so happy, and welcoming also. Please stay at this establishment I recommend it with nearly 5 stars, excellent place will definitely go their again. Well done !

Every time I visit Kaitaia, I always come here for dinner. It’s hands down one of my favourite restaurants in the country. The food is always so flavourful and the portion sizes are more than generous for the price. Their steaks are always cooked to absolute perfection. The staff are also really good! If you’re ever in Kaitaia, do yourself a favour and make sure you stop in here. You won’t regret it!
